Health Services

At Two Roads, our dedicated staff, including trained clinic aides, works collaboratively under the oversight of a registered nurse to support students in managing various health-related needs, such as the administration of prescription medications. These trained professionals prioritize the well-being of students and are equipped to address health-related concerns in a responsible and confidential manner, contributing to a safe and supportive learning environment.

Student Health and Medications

Accidents

All accidents that occur on the school grounds must be reported to the school Clinic Aide.  Students will receive care consistent with the severity of the injury.  Minor abrasions and bumps will be cleaned and bandaged.  Parents will be notified immediately when major accidents occur.  The fire department or other emergency medical service will be summoned in more serious situations.

Health Office

Each campus has a delegated clinic aide who operates under the authority of a Registered Nurse from Children’s Hospital.  Parents should bring special health problems to the attention of the registrar, via Campus Parent Portal, upon enrollment or to the clinic aide as soon as they arise.  The purpose of the health office is only to provide first aid and to screen students complaining of illness.  It is imperative that someone be available and prepared to pick up your student in the event of illness or accident.  A parent or designated adult must pick up a sick student within 30 minutes of being contacted by the clinic aide.  Any student with a temperature of 100 degrees or above should be kept home.

Medication

All prescription medication and over-the-counter medications must be sent to the health office with a completed medication form.

  • No medication will be dispensed unless a completed form is on file.
  • Medications must be sent in the original pharmacy labeled container.
  • The student may keep cough drops.

If parents want their child to keep medication on their person, these requirements must be met:

  • A letter from the doctor stating that it is necessary for the student to keep medications with him/her.
  • A letter from the parents accepting all responsibility in the event the medications are lost or improperly used by anyone.
  • Approval of the Registered Nurse.

Medical Forms

Jeffco families must submit a medical provider-signed agreement if their student requires medication during the school day.

Health Services in Jeffco

Jeffco Public Schools' Department of Health Services provides health consultation and resources to support students and their families.

Each school has a district Registered Nurse (RN) who consults with students, families, school staff and administration. Ask your student’s school for their district RN contact details and notify the RN if your student has a health need that requires support during the school day.

Each school also has a school health aide who does day-to-day care of students such as medication, Band-Aids, and ice.

Keep your student’s health concerns updated at registration and as conditions change during the school year. It is important for Jeffco to have current contact information of families.

When Students and Staff Should Stay Home

Jeffco follows the recommendations from Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) on when students and staff should stay home from school, work or childcare. District RNs provide guidance to school administration following the How Sick is Too Sick document.

The best ways to stop the spread of infection is through good hand washing and staying home when sick.

Immunizations

Colorado law requires all students attending Colorado schools and licensed childcare centers to be vaccinated against certain diseases unless a medical or non-medical exemption is filed.

For information about vaccine requirements, resources and exemptions, visit the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s School-Required Vaccines page.
