Student Registration & Fees
We encourage families to thoroughly review our admission policy to understand the enrollment process, and carefully examine our fee information, which is designed to be entirely reasonable. By familiarizing yourselves with these details, you'll gain valuable insights into our transparent and fair approach to fees, ensuring an informed and confident decision regarding your child's education.
Why we have fees and why paying them matters!
School fees can be a controversial topic to be sure. What do you mean I have to pay fees? I thought you were a public school? Well, it’s true, Two Roads is a tuition-free charter public school, but collection of student fees is an important part of our operating budget. Jeffco School District and the State of Colorado allow for the collection of very specific fees. Our fee schedule must meet strict criteria and be approved by both the Two Roads’ Board of Directors and Jeffco School District. Let’s take a quick peek at Two Roads’ operating budget.
Revenue
Our primary revenue source is our Per Pupil Funding/Revenue (PPR) which we receive from the state by way of
Jeffco. Yes, this is your tax dollars at work! Of our $4.4 Million in budgeted revenue, 97% comes from state
funding, 1% from miscellaneous sources, and 2% from student fees.
Expenses
$4.4 million,” you say, “why do you need my $100?!” I’m glad you asked.
Here’s what happens on the expense side. Of our revenue, we automatically send roughly 13% back to the District. We are required to essentially not spend another 4-5% to meet the requirements of TABOR, terms of our bond, and finance criteria set by the District. Worse case, this leaves us 82% of our revenue to run the educational program. Of that remaining money, 68% is invested in employee salary and benefits. Two Roads values people and we show it by where we put our money. If you’ve been doing the math, we now have 14% of our revenue left to pay our rent and mortgage, maintain our facility, purchase updated curriculum, equip our classrooms, train our teachers, and so on, and so on.
What happens when I don’t pay my fees?
When we fall short on the revenue side, we must make cuts on the expense side. Just like you would at home! In our case, this may mean putting off updating our curriculum library, waiting to repair or replace faulty equipment, upgrading technology, etc. Operating in the red (at a deficit) is not an option! So, thank you! Thank you for doing your part! It matters greatly!
We understand times are tough, but every dollar truly makes a difference at Two Roads.
We are happy to discuss your fees and to make payment arrangements if necessary. Of course, if you qualify for free and reduced services (by meeting federal criteria and completing the Family Economic Survey) your fees will be adjusted accordingly.
