Emergency Management
In the event of an emergency involving physical safety concerns for the students or staff, the administration will institute a school-wide lockdown. In the event of a lockdown, children will be held within the building until the perceived threat has passed. No one shall be allowed in or out of the building without permission from an administrator. If arriving on campus during one of our drills, individuals may not enter the building or retrieve students. Cases which would cause a lockdown include:
- Area environmental concerns
- Warnings from police about possible fugitive or violent activity in the immediate area
In case of a building related emergency, such as a gas leak, loss of heat, etc. we have an evacuation location for students and staff. In addition, we may also institute a lock in when there is a potential threat outside the school building.
The following are descriptions of all safety protocols:
- Evacuate – is called to move students and staff from one location to another
- Hold - is called when students need to remain in the classroom due to a situation in the hallway or other nearby classroom
- Lockdown – is called when there is a threat or hazard inside the school building
- Secure – is called when there is a threat or hazard outside of the school building
- Shelter – is called when the need for personal protection is necessary (i.e., tornado, hazmat)

Safety & Security Frequently Asked Questions
Emergency Communication
The fastest way to get information in an emergency situation is to check your email for updates from the district or your school. Keep an eye on Jeffco's website for alerts, and social media pages for additional updates.
The SchoolMessenger email system uses what families enter into the Infinite Campus Online Registration system for contact information. Families must ensure this information is always updated.
Your Role: What Families Should Do in an Emergency
- Stay away. Do not go to the school. This may interfere with procedures. Only public safety personnel will be allowed in or near a school during an emergency situation.
- Do not call. Do not call the school or security staff. We understand you may want to communicate with your student during an emergency, but calling may prevent them from hearing important instructions.
- Be informed. Monitor your phone, email, district social media channels, local law enforcement or fire social media channels and local news. Jeffco provides fast and accurate information to its community. In some situations, accurate information can take a long time to verify and share. Please be patient.
- Be ready. When you are asked to pick up your student, come quickly and bring your identification to the reunification location communicated to you. Jeffco will only release students to adults listed on that student’s Infinite Campus page. Make sure anyone who could pick up your student in an emergency is listed. This can include neighbors, friends or other family members.
