The Evolution of Coach K Through Dreams and Chances

With a passion for health and fitness, Karen Groce has dedicated her career to spreading the message of its importance. Karen began her career as a personal trainer during which she influenced dozens of clients to take responsibility for their life and their health. Through her influence, clients lost hundreds of pounds and gained a new found confidence in themselves. Karen’s venture magnified when she combined her love for sports with her love for fitness. At this stage in her career, she dedicated over 5 years to the development and success of both amateur and professional athletes. During this time Karen earned the nickname Coach K, which she carries with honor.

Throughout her career Karen held a multitude of titles like Personal Trainer, Strength and Conditioning Coach, Sports Performance Coach, and Assistant Fitness Director. Not until she earned the title Athletic Director and Physical Education Teacher did she feel at home in her career. Karen spent 3 years at a kindergarten through 8th grade private school in Louisiana not only teaching the students the importance of play but opening windows of opportunity with the impact of athletics.

After spending over a decade developing her career in Louisiana, Karen found a personal bond with establishing a life in Colorado. In 2014 she made the commitment to better her own life by becoming a Coloradan, even if it meant sacrificing her career. Over the next several months Karen held many positions, both related and unrelated to her passion in health and fitness, awaiting the opportunity to once again fulfill her love as an Athletic Director and Physical Education Teacher. In less than a year's time, Karen accepted the position of Physical Education Teacher at Two Roads Charter School in Arvada, Colorado. The following year, she was asked to oversee the athletic department.

Karen’s connection with education extends both professionally and personally. She has dedicated herself as a lifelong learner. While spending several years settling into her career, Karen committed herself to enhancing her education in Kinesiology by earning a Masters in Health Promotion and Exercise Science. She has also held several certifications signifying her commitment to her career. The commitment Karen has made to herself and her career has been honored on several occasions. Whether being awarded as a dedicated employee or through the development of programs, the honor Karen holds dearest is the opportunity to enrich young minds. Grateful for the opportunities that led to this stage in her life, Karen commits each day in her career to her philosophy signified by the Ancient Greek Philosopher, Plato: “In order for man to succeed in life, God provided him with two means, education and physical activity. Not separately, one for the soul and the other for the body, but for two together. With these two means, man can attain perfection.”
